Online apps today account for majority of the Smartphone usage globally. Whether it is Instant messaging, video, games, social media, shopping, banking - we have an app for each activity. As a result, there has been a decline in the usage of mobile websites. So have these apps replaced mobile web? Do users now prefer accessing apps than visiting sites?

Our ODM data across countries reveal that 'Shopping' is one category where the penetration for mobile sites is much higher than apps. As a recent report states, this could be due to the user's preference for doing most of their pre-purchase research on mobile sites.

Furthermore, the data reveals that except for India, in all other markets, the penetration for 'Shopping' sites is higher than apps with the figures being much higher in the US.
