May 2013

Hello Everyone,

Did you ever think your favorite video or music streaming service will pay for your mobile data?

Sounds far-fetched but the industry is already exploring models where content and app developers pay for consumerís data charges either by paying it themselves or by sharing advertising revenues. Last week there were reports of ESPN being in talks with a major US carrier to subsidize wireless connectivity and drive traffic to its mobile properties. AT&Ts CEO also spoke about a similar model yesterday (15 May 2013) at a J.P. Morgan conference, indicating content creators could pick up data traffic charges so consumers donít overrun their mobile bills.

While the telcos and media companies work out the economics, take a look at the current data usage habits among Smartphone users.
