According to a report released by eMarketer, the mobile game revenues in the US are expected to grow by 16.5% in year 2015 crossing mark of $3 billion, including both downloads and in-app purchases.

With Gaming as a theme, this week we explore gaming usage variance across both iOS and Android platforms. We observe that, Puzzle games are most popular among Android smartphone users, while Arcade games lead on popularity amongst iPhone users. Gambling and Adventure games have relatively higher Reach amongst Android & iOS respectively.

Users from Malaysia most engaged on Chat & VOIP apps

There is no doubt that Instant Messaging apps in the last couple of years has elbowed Games, Social networking & other apps to become one of the most engaging activity amongst Smartphone users worldwide. The recent developments has seen most of the Chat apps come up with various features like calling facility, emoji, stickers, sharing files etc which has not only made the user experience better & enjoyable but has ensured that these apps continue to be the dominant activity carried out on Smartphones.

In our this week’s InfoFlash, we decided to look at the engagement figures on Chat apps amongst our panelists from different markets. Our data reveals that users from Malaysia are the most engaged closely followed by those from Qatar and Thailand. Time spent is lowest amongst users from the US, Algeria, Philippines and Australia.

Attracting consumer attention in the highly competitive mcommerce market is a big challenge nowadays. Shopping app giants are in constant endeavour to provide unique comfort and satisfaction of online shopping to both their loyal and potential buyers. The latest launch of redesigned and upgraded version of eBay app (eBay 4.0) compatible to both iOS and Android Smartphones is such an attempt to stay ahead in the competition. This new version is claimed to feature a better user Interface coupled with more image centric design to facilitate e-shopping experience of a user.

In line with the buzz, we decided to understand the usage of eBay app among both Android and iOS users in the US in our weekly InfoFlash. Our data reveals that the popularity of eBay app is relatively higher among Android users as compared to their iOS counterparts. Demographically, penetration of the app is high among users aged 25+ year olds and female Android users.

Last week, Facebook touched a milestone when it hit one billion users in a single day. That Facebook is a giant in the social space is a well known fact but with a penetration like this, it has ensured that it will remain a leader for a long time to come.

In our this week’s InfoFlash, we decided to look at the usage of Facebook app across markets. Our on device mobile measurement data reveals that popularity of Facebook app is highest in Thailand with 9 out of 10 users accessing the app. Reach for the app is lowest in the US. Engagement is again highest amongst users from Thailand while it is lowest in Indonesia and India.
