Popularity of Travel apps is growing by the day. These apps can take care of all travel needs of a user right from booking tickets to checking timings of trains / planes to acting as travel guides. Travel apps have certainly made travelling easier and on the go. With travel as the theme, this week we look at usage of these apps across markets.

Our on device measurement data reveals that popularity of Travel apps is highest among Smartphone users from India. Reach of Travel apps in India is 2X higher than its nearest competitor. US, on the other hand, leads in terms of engagement on these apps.

Except for Philippines & Thailand, Milennials Lead on Smartphone Engagement

‘Milennials’ today are perceived to be the most engaged lot on smartphones. Whether it is games or their addiction for video streaming content, Milennials have become an integral part of any discussions on smartphone usage held on every digital platform.

Therefore, in our this week’s edition of InfoFlash, we decided to compare the smartphone engagement figures amongst Milennials and their older counterparts across geographies.

Our data reveals that Milennials indeed spend higher time on their devices in most of the markets, other than Thailand & Philippines. In these two markets older users have relatively higher engagement.

Women outshine men across most markets, in terms of frequency of usage of chat apps!

With the rise in number of smartphone users globally, options to connect with people are also increasing tremendously. If the online reports are to be believed, the smartphone users are spending more than 30% of their total time on Communication apps alone.

Considering the surge observed in the usage of chat apps over past couple of years, in this week’s edition of InfoFlash, we decided to look at gender wise frequency of usage of chat apps across various markets. Our ODM data unveils that females primarily dominate this space. Users in Malaysia spend highest number of sessions on the category with no difference seen by gender. In Thailand, men are seen to be spending more sessions than women.

Penetration for Health & Fitness apps highest in Australia and South Africa

Fitness is one area where one can’t afford to think about it once, run through a checklist of things to improve and then forget about it. Good health needs to be maintained through small and consistent actions which lasts over a period of time. That’s where mobile apps make for ideal fitness companions. As per a recent report, it has been estimated that by the end of 2015, 500 million smartphone users worldwide will be using at least one health app on their device. Further, by 2018, the number of users is expected to grow 6 times.

With ‘health & fitness’ apps as the theme, we decided to look at how popular these apps are amongst our panelists from different markets in our this week’s InfoFlash. Our data reveals that the popularity of these apps is highest in Australia & South Africa. Qatar and US follow next. The category penetration is seen to be lowest amongst users from Malaysia & Indonesia.

Live streaming radio is getting increasingly popular among music lovers worldwide.

Recently Apple launched ‘Apple Music’ for all the music lovers to experience music differently. This newly launched app features combination of live radio station and streaming music service with social networking platform.

This much created Apple music buzz has drawn our attention to look into our data to gauge the performance of top streaming music and radio apps in the US across iOS users. Our research data indicates that Pandora leads in terms of popularity among US listeners. Almost one third of the US iOS listeners tune in to this application. Among live streaming music apps, Spotify tops the list. It will be interesting to watch if Apple Music makes it to the top spot in the US. Stay tuned….
